How to fall in love with fitness?
You can fall in love with chocolates, a human, or even a glorious location—but falling in love with fitness isn’t so simple. But, it is easy to fall deeply in love with how fitness makes you feel, and the positive effects it can have on your life.
Michelle Segar, PhD, a motivation scientist and an author says “People have a hard time sticking to fitness plans for two core reasons. One is because the motivation isn’t there,” & the second reason is They don’t give themselves permission to prioritize self-care.”

So here Rejoice Wellness brings you a few simple hacks to do exactly that…
Find a Meaning
The first step in revolutionizing your fitness routine is to determine what fitness actually means to you. Why? & What? & How? S of your fitness.
Why you want to get Fit? What are you willing to do to achieve that goal? How do you plan to do those things practically?
For example:
Answer to 1st question can be; I want to be the Best Version of Myself OR to be fit for attending some close family wedding/ reunion in different city or out of country OR to be able to go on an adventure sports trip that I waited for all my life OR to be able to reverse the metabolic disorder that’s just started knocking on my doorstep like diabetes, blood pressure, heart disease, thyroid disorder, PCOS, hormonal imbalance etc. OR I want to stay fit to never become sick, bedridden, dependent and burden on my kids during their peak life years OR whatever it is that’s motivation you to walk on this journey.
Answer to 2nd question can be; I am willing to leave my favourite high caloric junk food item till I achieve my goals OR to exercise everyday OR to sacrifice few weekend booze parties with colleagues OR to change my entire lifestyle OR anything that suits for you.
And the answer to 3rd question can really make all the difference. You have to strategize. Figure out the logistics of negotiating your fitness within your complex life schedule. Because here is where you note down an actionable plan & stick to it.
Also think of all the excuses in advance that you will give yourself to cheat on this plan.
And to be able to do that our next pointers are very important.
Raise Awareness
Once you’ve found your meaning, the next step is to increase your self-awareness.
After all, desire is a very powerful motivator. Once you are clear about the path ahead half the battle is won.
Give Permission
Fitness is so much more than just getting your body moving. It is about overall well-being.
It can reduce stress, amp up your happiness, and offer some solid proof of how much you can accomplish if you put your mind to it; which can be a great self-worth elevator.
But chances are you put your job, your family and what other people want from you ahead of your own need for fitness. So go on, put yourself first with your actionable plan that you have already made.
Exercise, Diet [i.e. Food & water intake], Sleep & mental well-being are important facets of achieving your fitness goals.
Get Up and Go
One of the best ways to jumpstart your fitness life is to exercise first thing in the morning, right when you wake up. And remember; Phones can be a huge time-suck and, believe me, 99.9% of the stuff on them can wait. And if you get caught up with work or family obligations, the first thing to take the hit will be your training time. Get it done early in the day before all these priorities kick in.
Find something you love
Whether it is running, Zumba, Dancing, Swimming, CrossFit or boxing, really try hard to find an activity or sport you truly enjoy. Still sticking with it every single day can be difficult sometimes but your liking will make it easier to overcome this resistance and stick with it.
Look good to feel good
Never doubt the power of a new chic gym outfit! A hot pair of gym leggings or a stylish sports bra and training clothes can do wonders for self-motivation and add a little ‘edge’ as there will be days when you need that little boost.
Keep it simple
Plan your next day’s meals well inadvance. And make sure to keep the recipes simple and doable with local easily available ingredients. Keep water goals realistic and slowly move towards higher intake. But Remember, excessive water consumption can also be harmful as it flushes out water-soluble vitamins and minerals.
Don’t ignore the likings
Respect your taste-buds because if you don’t then you will not be able to continue with those meals for very long. And falling in love with fitness needs change of lifestyle. And this change needs consistency.
Sleep your way to fitness
Good night sleep on right time according to your circadian cycle is very important. We burn a lot of fat during sleep while body is repairing & rejuvenating itself. Sleep also helps regulating hormonal & mental balance. So adjust your chores accordingly and do not compromise on sleep. Plan your day considering your sleep hours and timings.
Get a fitness partner
Telling your fitness goal to your friend can be a great way to stay on track. Getting a friend to join a fitness journey can also help enhance performance and add a healthy competitive edge to your journey while adding a motivation to continue.
Exercising with a buddy can be a great way to develop a passion for exercise and build a habit.
Make it a ‘Habit’
Creating and changing habits can take days, weeks, or even months. Whatever you do, DON’T GIVE UP!
Set a weekly fitness goal and try to stay on a regular regimen for at least 30 days. Make fitness your new lifestyle.
Kindness is key
Don’t get yourself down about your current physique if your fitness levels aren’t where you want them to be, be patient, the process takes time.
Self-compassion and kindness has proven to increase the chances of you succeeding on your new fitness journey. It will help understanding of how to fall in love with fitness. Stay positive, you’re on the right path.
Use any mistakes from your past and unhealthy options you may have taken as an opportunity to learn, develop and grow.
Keep it real
Have patience. Set realistic targets and timelines.
You did not go away from your fitness goal or ‘Best Version of Yourself’ in a day and so you will not reverse the process in a day too.
Keep a clear mind on consistency and zone in on the fact you’re doing this to become a healthier and happier you. In comparison to your physical changes taking time, your mental health will improve very quickly. Your mood will boost and your overall patience with others will grow.
Reward every small change
Break your big goals in to smaller goals to achieve. Do not forget to give a pat on your own back for every small achievement. You are your biggest motivator. Make a note of every positive change that your efforts are bringing like clothes fitting better, being able to climb stairs without getting breathless, junk food cravings disappearing from your life etc.
Don’t ever get downhearted by the targets you set that are yet to be achieved and how far you still have to go on your fitness journey. Rather celebrate how far you have come in your journey.
The physical reward takes time and when that time arrives, you will look amazing!
Focus on you
Stop caring about what other people may think of you when you’re working on your own fitness. The truth is, nobody cares. Everyone is on their own fitness journey and focusing on their own goal. Everyone looks out of breath and sweaty when they exercise. Everyone looks a bit silly. Everyone has low days and need an extra push at times. Do not compare your journey with someone else’s as your journey is unique to you.
Enjoy the Fitness Journey
Part of falling in love with anything is to experience some level of enjoyment—and at least you need to like whatever you’re doing. Consistency requires discipline and that can be difficult to maintain sometimes. Every time you hit a low remind yourself of your ‘Why?’ that you have defined in the beginning of your journey.
Let this new fitness journey become your new lifestyle. Achieving your fitness goals need to be a play and not a chore that needs to be ticked away on your To-Do list.
